Mike was appointed to the Quincy Fire District board of commissioners in 2006 to replace longtime board member Dorothy Dunn who retired.

He is the publisher of six weekly community newspapers that cover Plumas and Lassen counties owned by he and his wife Keri. Besides serving as chairman of the board of commissioners, Mike has always been very active in the community serving as a Rotarian, serves on the board of Pumas County Senior Citizens and is past president of the Quincy Chamber of Commerce and Plumas County Chamber of Commerce, which later became the Plumas Corporation and Visitors Bureau. Mike also serves on the board of directors California News Publishers Association, the official organization representing the interests of daily and weekly newspapers and news organizations throughout the state.
